The Corporate Services Corps (CSCs) is an elite band of top performing IBMers who are exposed to what the company calls 21st century context of doing business. IBM is assembling people who are capable of working in any part of the world, can deal with global team drawn from diverse cultures and are sensitive to societal expectations. So far 500 IBMers from 44 countries have participated in various community-driven economic development projects in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America as part of the CSC program, which is now in its second year.
The program brings together the best and brightest of IBMs talent, who then compete to become volunteers. Selection is a rigorous process and can take up to two or three months. Among other things applicants are grilled on what they hope to achieve from the programs and why they should be chosen. IBM bears the cost of the entire program. Volunteers get to solve real world issues, may or may not be IT related and work with diverse set of people and cultures.
IBM worked on a project for Myrada, a non-government organization that works with small and marginal farmers in Gulbarga to improve the quality of their agricultural land through various soil and water conservation initiatives. The sharp rice in prices of Tur Dal last year forced Myrada to intervene on behalf of the farmers on the pricing front. At the NGOs behest NCDEX set up a spot exchange in Gulbarga for Tur Dal in Nov 2009.
IBM has executed a number of CSC projects in India like helping Pune based Film and Television Institute of India track its Assets and Inventory. Assisting Bangalore based Parikrama (an educational institute of poor children) in reaching out to a broader donor base, creating a web based teacher evaluation system for govt schools in Andhra Pradesh, helping the Gujarat Tribal Development Dept build an eco tourism project in Sasan Gir, building a computer application for SEWA members to connect each other. The company authorities say this is an excellent way of talent retention. Tags: Hits: 43 | Read more... |

EATING FRUIT This is informative... Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes - all of these will NOT happen if you eat fruit on an empty stomach. Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days, and you will be surprised when your friends say how radiant you look! KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange! AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke. STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals. WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C & Potassium.. GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your eyes.. Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! A serious note about heart attacks. Tags:
