The immediate concern of ESAF is evolution of a strategy for achieving economic prosperity and ecological sustenance to the benefit of human health and welfare. Modern Medicine is just around six decades old. Long before this, the sages of this country - the tribal doctors - monks - and a host of traditional practioners were treating people having diverse illness, based on traditional knowledge and practices.
The modern medicine could make large inroads into the traditional system of medicines. But of late, there is realization that by and large the plant based drugs are free from side effects, ill effects and after effects and they are at once preventive, promotive and curative. The resource base of all traditional medicines are medicinal plants. These life savings drug plants are currently under the threat of extinction.
